In this assignment, you need to critically analyze, describe and illustrate your strengths and weak points as a prospective English teacher. You need to give examples from your practice teaching experiences to illustrate the points that you make. You also need to illustrate what you are planning to do to improve your weak points as an English teacher.
As a prospecitve English teacher, I believe I have a good knowledge of my subject area as most of my friends do. this is one of the basic characteristics a good teacher should possess. another fact is that I believe I can have warm and close relationships with the students and prepare activities that they will enjoy. when they enjoy the lesson, they will like learning English and I will have succeeded my purpose. ın the practise teaching, students were very enthusiastic for my lessons and wondering what we would do that day when I was going to teach the lesson. apart from thi, I believe I have good classroom management skills and dont let the students spoil the lesson. I know where to let them laugh and make jokes and where to make them silent. however, I need to improve myself about time management. sometimes, I taught an activity would last short in the practise teaching and prepared a few activities but I could not have enough time to do them. I can leave some of the activities as the contingency plan.
ReplyDeleteAs a prospecitve English teacher i think i have learned many theoretical part of my profession that is the time to show it on practice. in my internship process i have realized that theory very differs from practice and i think for now i know only theoretical part of my future job. however, i can say that during the practice i obtained experiences which will be useful in the future. for example, interaction between Ss and teacher should be very close but not too much so that she would not use her authority. also i have learned that if teacher wants the learners to speak she should give example first and then ask studetns to perform. in practice teaching i used this technique and now and then i will definitely use it.
ReplyDeleteI think one of my strengths in teaching skills comes from my character, I am patient and passionate. I wait long enough for my students' to get the thing I teach, and I try my best to teach them that thing. I am also confident in classroom management skills which I find quite important. I can get good realationships with my students which I believe affects their attitudes towards me and my lesson in a good manner.
ReplyDeleteTime management was a little problematic for me at first as I was carried of with the lesson, however after the experiences that I gained form the practice teaching, I am also confident in time mangement now.

Weaknesses:
The only problems that occurred during my teachings were minor and they were all because I was not the teacher, rather the trainee. They occurred because of how students perceived me and because I did not know them well enough. So all I can do is to have a class of my own, me being the "teacher", not the trainee.
As a prospective English teacher, being a METU students is one of the biggest advantages, because we have learned theoretical part of the ELT. I think classroom management is one the point that I am good at because, I always try to include all of the students into class discussion, I do care about the students feeling If they are to bored to learn I can stop the lesson and play a game with them. the weak point of mine is that warm up parts can be difficult for me sometimes, especially the transition between the warm up part and the lesson part. and I don"t like to use the blackboard. I think I must get used to it. Another thing is my pronunciation is really understandable and I can adjust myself according to the level of the students.Monitoring students can be difficult for me. I think I am also I really like teaching:)) I think this is the most important thing.

ReplyDeleteI beleive that I can design interesting and fun activities that suits with students’ age, level and learning styles. My activities are generally liked by my students and promote their participation to a maximum extent. I am especially good at developing students’ communicative skills. I think that I also create a positive learning environment where sts are eager to learn.
My weaknesses:
I have a lot more to learn and gain from more experience. I can improve my time and classroom management classroom skilss. I can be more competent and realistic about designing lessons.
I believe that my strongest point is in teaching grammar. I can give the grammatical points without any difficulty and I can teach them clearly and effectively. However my weakest point is maybe in giving insttructions. Once in my teaching session I gave the instruction but it was all a mass. I was not able to control and direct the class and I had a bad time during my teaching. Then to make things clear I asked my mentor teacher to help me.
ReplyDeleteAs a prospective teacher, according to me creating a warm learning environment between the students and me is very important. Because the students should be motivated and prepared for the lesson. Also to provide this I use my voice not always the same. If there is an important subject that should be focused on, I increase my voice level. I think gestures, mimics and intonation should be also used to attract them to the lesson. Also I think I am good at providing a positive athmosphere in the calassroom with the enjoyable activities I have prepared.These are among my strengths however; I have also some weak points that I need to improve myself on that scopes. For example, I am not good at in giving instructions and accurate pronunciation.
ReplyDeleteAs my strenghts I think I can create a good and funny atmosphere in the classroom during speaking activities. I can apply the activities effectively. I can create a warm up session well.My classroom management is also good. I like group and pair work in the class and use them effectively. I can explain the new vocabulary very good and students can understand my explanations. Also I never use Turkish during teaching and I think it is an advantage. However my pronounciation and speaking skills should be improved.
ReplyDeleteI have got very good communication skills which is one of my strengths as a prospective teacher. I don't think that I will have problems with my students about communication.Secondly I can use my gestures very effectively while teaching English.My knowledge of subject area is rather qualified.Most importantly I create positive atmosphere in my classes. I try to find out enjoyable and interesting activities for my students. Finally I am fair.
ReplyDeleteThe most important weakness of me is sensibility.I am so emotional that I may cry easily.A bad event can affect me deeply but I believe that I will overcome it.

I can create a positive atmosphere in the classroom and make English courses as creative as possible. besides, I can encourage my students to participate in the activities.
My weaknesses:
I am not confident in teaching grammar because I don't think it should be thought as it is in the curriculum.

ReplyDeleteI believe that I am good at preparing lesson plans. I can prepare avtivities and integrate them which the students enjoy. I do not have much problem while finding activities. Also, I am good at having good relation with students and I do not have communication problems. Usually my lessons are interactive, I try to motivate them. I can encourage my students to participate in the lessons.
my weaknesses;
I think the weak point of me is grammer teaching. I have some problems with it and I do not know how to handle it. but, I do my best to improve myself. Besides, Ihave some problems with my feelings. I am emotional so sometimes I can not control my emotions which can show me weak.

Weaknesses:
I have a problem of balancing the level of my language according to the class. I have still difficulty on this. Another problem is time management. Sometimes it can be problematic for me.
My strengths;
ReplyDeletePreparing worksheets, especially the ones which are elaborated with visuals is not a big problem for me. Then, I found my pronunciation good. Also, my posture as a teacher before the class helps me in controlling the classroom without too much effort. Lastly I can say that I am happy about my effective use of board and my handwriting.
My weaknesses;
I have got a problem of using the classroom language not efficiently, which, I believe, results from my not being fluent in English. Of course, this problem will definitely be eliminated by the experience I will gain in the field in time. Both of my mentors told me that my voice is not high enough. And throughout the term, I have dealt with to some extent, I think.

I am good at preparing creative and appropriate materials according to the students’ interest and the topic. I could create a calm and positive classroom environment. I have developed myself on the pair work and group work activities. My lesson plans focused on integrated skills are more effective than my grammar lesson plans.
ReplyDeleteFor now, my big weakness is grammar teaching because I couldn’t build up my own philosophy on this issue. I am trying to develop myself by study on the different methods and current research. The other ones are giving effective and proper instructions, classroom management and dealing with disruptive behaviors. I am practicing in front of the mirror but I believe that these will develop with experience.
