A video on an effective English class

Dear FLE 404 members,
In this assignment, you need to find a video from YouTube,or TeacherTube on an effective English class from your own perspective. You need to illustrate and justify your points by giving examples. You need to focus on the following points:
a)In what ways do you think it is an effective English class?
b)In what ways do you find the teacher's teaching style, methods and techniques,his/her interaction with students effective?

You also need to illustrate the weak points of the teacher and the ineffective aspects of the lesson. You need to give the link to the video as well

ın this video, the students work as a group and discuss about movies. I like group work activities in the lesson because then we give the chance to discuss and brainstorm. ın this video, the students talk about their ideas and express themselves. we need to give chances to the students to practise the language. so,I believe this is a successful lesson. But, the teacher is not seen in the video. most probably, s/he was monitoring the students' talk and taking notes. The teacher should not intervene much duing the group work activities because it may be a frustration for them.

in this video the teacher teaches the pronunciation and words usage. it is really effective because he gives examples from real life and demonstrate every example. moreover, he communicate with students and have a fun with them, also he tries to keep the mood of the lesson very energetic. also he is very enthusiastic his lesson and keep the interests of the students up.

    Good points:
Teacher repeats what the student said as an answer.
    Teacher uses a communicative approach
    Paraphrases the questions he asks
Gives time for them to think &write their responses
He is specific about what he wants (3 sentences)
They have both a native and Japanese teacher
    Use of body language
    Monitoring
    Positive atmosphere
    Feedback on student reposnse

    Bad points:
Classroom management is bad (at the beginning of the class)
    Crowded class
It could be more fun and better
    Rather passive students

    in this video the teacher is really good. she is really good at explaining. she has drown charts and really neatly written everything on the board. she asks questions like;
    is it all right?
is it ok? in order to be sure about the students learned or not. her pronunciation is clear. in addition after every explanation she gives several examples in order to make the knowledge more permanent.

This is a very well-known video of Krashen. I am sure all of us have seen it before. Though being very simplistic and basic, I beleive that it has many implications for language teaching. First of all, we learn unconsciously, when we are not given the rule but when we internalize things. Therefore, it is important to provide visuals, display what we teach through body language and to use the language in such a comprehensible manner that the sts do not have difficulty with understanding and internalizing.

In the video we see how the comperative and superlative adjectives can be tought. The best side of the teacher is , I believe, is that she devided the class into two groups and set the grammar point as a competition and the students were really willing to participate.
Hoıwever, the bad side of the video is that we do not see how she teach the grammar point. DFoes she teach inplicitely or explicitely?
Also I believe that visual thing are always and always needed in order to provide a deeper understanding. Thus I believe, that she need to add PPP.

In this video the teacher teaches Days. I really like the teaching style of the teacher. He tries to make the students involve in the lesson actively. Also he uses cards on which the name of the days are written. He chooses 7 students and want them to come in front of the board and gives a card to each of them. Then he wants them to put the days into correct order. The students change their cards and manage their mission. then the teacher divides the class into two groups as boys and girls and makes a competition about the spelling of the days. The students are really willing to participate the activity and it is quite beneficial for teaching the spelling of the words. This kinds of activities are like a positive reinforcement for the students. However, one of the students writes 'Thursday' wrong and the teacher doen't realize that mistake and so he doesn't correct it.

    In this video the teacher gives some points we should be careful about while teaching;

    -following rules and procedures.
    - succesfully engaging in all learning activities.
-classroom rules and procedures should be defined.
-creating a physical seeting that supports academic and social goals.
    -classroom schedule.
    -enhancing students' motivation.
    -get the know your students.
    etc.

I think this tips and points will help a teacher a lot while conducting classroom management.

I chose and shared this video because the atmosphere of this classroom is exactly like the way I want to have. The teacher uses the board effectively in terms of his handwriting and the placement of the visuals. The classroom has warm and enjoyable atmosphere and the teacher has fun with the students. The importance is on the fluency and conveying the meaning because the teacher doesn’t correct the pronunciation mistakes. By creating scene, literally, the teacher makes the students more motivated to participate in the lesson. For me, there is no bad point in this teaching. I couldn’t have chance to watch the whole lesson but as far as I understand, the students at the desk don’t have any purpose to listen to their friend. They listen to their friend because they have fun and the activity is interesting for them but it would be much better if they had something like a rubric to complete while they are listening their friend.
