Dear FLE 404 members,
In this assignment you need to describe your own teaching identity as an English teacher. To be more specific, you need to describe what kind of a teacher you are, what your likes and dislikes as a teacher are, your teaching style, your style of interaction with your students, your teaching approaches, your favourite teaching activities, your own role(s) as a teacher in the English.
I give much importance to particiation in the classroom and want the students to be active during the lesson because this is very important for them to learn. I like to teach all the skills inductively because deductive teaching is nothing more than memorizing something for me. I like to interact wtih the students during the lesson and motivate them to participate in the process and also doing group or pair work activiites to let them interact with each other and learn from each other. I believe the teacher is a guide in the classroom, she should open the gate and let the students walk around in the garden. and I like using pictures if possible during the lesson, PPT, songs, films etc.
ReplyDeletefor me the important thing is whether students understand what they learn. i am not a supporter of teach and ask methods, but rather teach and perform. i do not like when student have question marks in their mind and then lose interest to the language. for that reason i want them learn the language and then do my best to make them participate and use the language. as it is i would use only English in my classes and do my best the students speak as well...
ReplyDeleteinteraction is very important when the teacher is a language teacher because students will always have questions related to the language and they should never be afraid to ask the teacher for the answer. for that reason i always support interaction, close interaction between teacher and students.
i very like learning through the games and i think it really effective so in the future i will definitely use this strategy.
For me a positive classroom atmosphere is the essential factor to make a good and effective lesson. So I am a positive and tolerant teacher above all. I care a lot about my students' feelings and my realtionship wtih my students. After providing a good atmosphere, I try to make the students participate and learn as they enjoy. I don't stick to any certain teaching style or activity, I think things can and should be changed when there is a need for a change. So in ordet to catch the need for the change I try to obsere my students well, so I can say that I a a good observer. And ı believe that the students are naturally good and ready to learn, so I try my best to give them what they need.
ReplyDeleteI wrote about those points in a detailed way in all of the 3!!! teaching philosophy assignments and I am pretty sick of being asked the same things over and over again.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I support is using only the target language during the lesson. because if use the the mother tongue of the students during the lesson, they get used to it and do not want to try to understand when we speak in English, they would wait for the Turkish explanation. I like using only English in the classroom. the problem for me is that I do not want to spend much time on those who do not want to participate in class. I want to spend my time effectively for the other part of the class. however I should overcome it.
ReplyDeleteBasically, I always aim to create a positive learning environment. I like to activate the students and motivate them to learn English. I dislike to teach English like other subjects in a deductive way. I beleive that English lessons should serve to their communicative purposes and should be alienated from rules and the structure. My favorite teaching activities are story telling, games, information gaps and task-based activities where sts can communicate and use the language in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, if I am the teacher in the class everybody need to know that there is discipline in that class. I cannot allow any of the misbehavies. I set my rules and give the instructions right from the beggining. however ths does not mean that I do not interact or help my students as a teacher. İn case I can be like a mother and in another case I can be a teacher. Another thing is that I like variety in my class. I like to show videos and make debates. Also preparing a board out of students works and follow them weekly and up dating them is the thing I like most. I can not be a rough teacher but I am teacher who believes in the power of words within rules.
ReplyDeleteI try to create a positive athmosphere in the classroom to motivate students and catch their attention. I want to provide enjoyable lessons however while doing it, I do not lose my control over the students. I really give importance to classroom management technique. These are the things that I can interpreate about myself. However I am sure about that when I have my own classes I will discover new aspects about myself.
ReplyDeleteI believe that creatig a positive atmosphere is one of me priorities.I wanna have good relationships with all of my students. If they like me they will also like my lessons.Fairness is indispensible for education as well.My other goal is to be fair in all occasions.I definitely prefer student centered lessons. I am in the opinion of teaching grammar implicitly.I will give more importance on speaking and reading as these skills are essential for communication. Language should be taught for communication purposes. Communicative language teaching is one of my favourite approaches.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ikbal we talked about our teaching philosophy...etc many times. however if I specify myself as a teacher, I think I am like a friend but not a friend of students. I am dominant in the class and I am the leader of the lesson. They can do whatever they want as long as I allow.
ReplyDeleteI prefer including communicative activities and students participation. I don't like teaching grammar all the time but I prefer providing as much input as possible. Although I mentioned these things in my teaching philosophy, I want positive atmosphere in in the classroom. besides I want to be a guide in the class not an authority.
ReplyDeleteFirsly, I try to create a positive athmosphere in the clasroom with some warm ups and greatings. Because I belive that if you start the lesson positevely, the lesson will go on like this. I also try to conduct my classroom management skills in the classroom. I try to balance my authority, not to much authority and not less.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I should have enough information about both my branch and my students because a teacher should be a professional in his/her area of teaching and should be informed about his/her students in order to guide them properly.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, my teaching philosophy in the classroom should be student – centered as we all know that students learn everything by doing and experiencing on their own.
Lastly, I should be careful about my relationships with my learners since teachers’ attitudes towards students determine their approach to the lesson. However, we should not forget that here we emphasize not being too strict. If we become one of our learners so as to be close to them, we must remember that we lose our authority in the class.
I would love active classrooms, that is, whatever I do, the students have to be in the center of the lesson and they should participate in the lesson. The pair works and group works are my favorite interaction patterns because I believe that the affective filter of the students decreases when they cooperate with their friends. If you control the classroom effectively, the students use the target language in their communication with the group members. The medium of the classroom, of course, should be the target language. I want the classroom more colorful and enjoyable because I loved being students and having fun in the classroom and this made me more motivated to learn. Therefore, I want my learners to have fun in the classroom. If they love the environment, their previous fears and prejudgments disappear, and they begin to love the language. I am trying to be a guide not a strict controller and commander. I want a friend of the learners who wait for them in the classroom with a smiling face.
